This design, showing a pair of Stanford University linemen in training, is one of the best of this distinguished poster series for ""Sunset"" magazine. Started in 1898 as a promotional publication of the Passenger Department of the Southern Pacific Railroad, the ""Pacific Monthly"" magazine would expand to 100 pages by 1903, adding theatrical and literary reviews, photography and fiction to the existing lineup of travel notes and verse. Sunset is the only railroad publication that found favor with the public. Still in existence today, it remains one of the bellwethers of Western lifestyle.
