A public service poster--that includes a small image of an actual rescue in progress in the background--is as iconoclastic as it is boldly promotional. Maurer used the sleek, Hollywood-inspired style of enhanced realism that came into vogue in the 1940s. He is best known for a series of posters that he created for the New Haven Railroad and other New England clients.
