The concept of ""living statues"" was not unusual in the first quarter of the century. Grecian-style tableaux vivants with faces and bodies completely (and dangerously) covered in gold or white paint were popular in revues and, less formally, in home theatricals for depicting dramatic moments in a aesthetic manner. What's unusual here is how this traveling act combined the device with fears of strength. A compendium of their Herculean deeds fill s the poster's stage, and their portraits are vignetted at the ends of the golden dumbell above it all. Gold and blue with red accents.
