Ohio-born Christy had a reputation as a patriot, both as a graphic artist and an American citizen. After training at New York Citys Art Student League (where he was forced to drop out or William Merit Chases painting class when it was discovered hat he sold illustrations to magazines), he accompanied the troops to Cuba during the Spanish-American War, earning regard as a combat artist. An illustrator, portrait painter and muralist, he is much esteemed for his recruitment posters. And why bring this up as relevant background for a clearly commercial design? For one, to provide evidence that Christy certainly wasn't a one-trick pony. But more importantly, that he was able to transfer the fresh-faced yet slightly seductive women that he used to get the boys to rally round the flag to bolster the consumer appeal of any clients product. And this Lucky Strike poster is absolutely delightful. From the smoke ring/engagement ring concept to the stereotypical faces of impending matrimony, Christys lithographic narrative is a winner. Giclee Prints are printed on heavy matte finish 180gsm German art paper using the finest Canon archival inks. Entry Level Art Prints are printed on 250Gsm satin paper.
