In prior auctions we have often speculated about which one of Loupots early Swiss posters was his debut. We now have proof positive: This is Loupots first poster, done while he was a student at the Beaux-Arts in Lyon in 1913. In his upcoming book on the artist, Christophe Zagrodzki comments further: The recent discovery of what is without doubt the artists very first poster constitutes a great surprise in that Loupot never mentioned its existence. In conversations with the writers of articles published in LAffiche and LArt Vivant in 1926, he cited as his first printed poster the one he did in 1916 for the Lausanne store Innovation. For some reason, he preferred to forget this tentative first effort that the design he did 13 years earlier was too immature to talk about? Or could it have been the resemblance to Grassets Fetes de Paris was too marked? From an historical standpoint, we are delighted to have the mystery solved; from an aesthetic view, we see the eye of the great colorist already in evidence.
