This poster is for the German release of the 1924 Russian silent film of the same name - the first Russian cinematic attempt at science fiction and a work of Bolshevik propaganda to boot. The hero is a Soviet inventor who builds a spaceship, travels to Mars and helps ignite a revolution among Queen Aelitas slaves to create a communist society. The film is also memorable for its Constructivist sets and costumes -futuristic and ancient at the same time - designed by Alexander Rodchenko. Whereas the original Russian poster focused on Aelitas proles, the German design gives us the queen herself - luridly colored and all fierce eyes in a masculine face that sprouts objects of pain and warfare. It is not clear whether Grasnick is the creator - or simply the printer - of this triple-breasted threat. Giclee Prints are printed on heavy matte finish 180gsm German art paper using the finest Canon archival inks. Entry Level Art Prints are printed on 250Gsm satin paper. Quality Frame with a single white matboard and Acrylic glazing.

.
