Like Cottereau, Griffon and many other bicycle manufacturers at the time, the Belgian company Delin used its factory to turn out motorized vehicles as well. In this delectable-colored sunset scene, the well-seated Delin rider casts an envious eye on a doll-size couple in a Delin moteur (We, however, covet her natty checked socks.) An illustrator, posterist and painter as well as an accomplished cyclist, Gaudy created images that almost always centered on the bicycle or automobile. In announcing and illustrating this particular image in its 1898 August-September issue, The Poster indicated a preference for the artists automobile posters but admitted that this design is attractive, and nice in composition. Rare!
