From the deep purple shadows of tall pines, we're given a breathtaking view of Pralognan and the sun-drenched Vanoise massif mountain majesty for the Paris-Lyon-Mediterranee railway who once more opt for natural splendor over locomotional bragging rights. The famous massif lies between the valleys of the Arc and the Isere; it was proclaimed a national park in 193. Though dotted with charming villages and lovely forsts, the Vanoise Massif nonetheless remains a high mountain area: 107 summits exceed 9,900 feet and the glaciers cover a total area of thirty-four square miles.
